Matilda Gets Mobile
31 March 2010
THERE WAS GREAT JOY WHEN 2 YEAR OLD Matilda Wilson of Miami was presented with a mobility Walker which will enable her for the first time to stand and move by herself.
The presentation was arranged by the combined Lions clubs of Robina, Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach-Currumbin after an appeal from Matilda’s grandmother for assistance.
Matilda is a vibrant little girl with lots of personality and loads of potential, who has a great deal of special needs as a victim of Cerebral Palsy which is a debilitating condition but with early intervention and specialized care the outcome can be dramatically enhanced.
Her family has made many sacrifices to enable Matilda to obtain very specialized physiotherapy and other treatments and this included her mother selling the family business to fund and support Matilda to get a start in life ,so we, as Lions recognize that as our Lions Motto says, “WE CARE†had to get involved and buy this expensive equipment for Matilda said the Lions Spokesman.
To see the Joy at a recent Club meeting when little Matilda showed us all how she could walk and indeed run brought many a tear amongst those who have given to this request.
